Maroons…

Okay, raise your hand if you’re shocked. The Epstein papers everyone made such a big deal about were finally released and, OMG, was it ever nothing. It was the greatest nothing. The nothingist nothing. Big, strong men come up to me with tears in their eyes and say, “Sir, that was really nothing.” Let’s just agree, it was bigly nothing. (My spell check hates this bit…)

What people WANT is his client list. That’s not what we got. The cons want to prove that Bill Clinton is a pervert who has sex with underage women and they need the information to smear him more effectively than they can do with their current “Hey, just make it up!” technique. Bill’s name was mentioned. Then again, so was Stinky Donny’s. But these were NOT reported as clients. These were people somehow associated with the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell.

The whole hullabaloo got me thinking, though, so I did something. Apropos of nothing – and I really mean nothing – I searched for photos of Clinton and Epstein. There are a couple, one at what looks like a White House function and the other looks…odd, like it might not be real. But then I did the same with Trump and Epstein. There are more. Lots more. And in party situations, hanging out. Even going out as couples, Stinky Donny and Melania, and Jeffery and Ghislaine.

I’ll tell you this: I’m not sure it’s a good idea for MAGA to try for political gain by slamming Bill’s association with Epstein when it’s so easy to link Donny and Jeffery, as well…

There was this defendant being sentenced for battery in a Las Vegas courtroom when he rushed the judge, leapt over her bench, and attacked her. It was, simultaneously, a very stupid move and a very impressive jump. I’m guessing that, particular, Einstein enhanced his sentence, somewhat – and that’s before the new trial for new charges of assault and battery get filed for THIS attack. To quote Bugs: “What a maroon…”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MAN the lies get old. No, they never go away. They just get old. Donny trotted out his “I tried to send 10,000 troops to defend the Capitol but Pelosi said no.” story again. THIS time, the story is to smack Liz Cheney, of all people. Donny insists he can’t prove he tried to send the troops because “Liz Cheney deleted it.” MAGA hates Liz, now that she did a right thing, so, of course it’s all her fault… Donny is trying to claim he “can’t defend himself” because of her meanie-pants behavior. Interestingly, I think Donny “can’t defend himself” because his behavior is indefensible.
Quibbles, right? Still, if the story is true, at all, in any way, it kind of creates more questions than it answers. So I’m going to ask the questions.
The United States had successfully enjoyed 44 (maybe 43, depending on how you count Grover Cleveland) peaceful transfers of power since the founding of our now MAGA-damaged nation. Why, pray tell, should Nancy have had concerns about the security at the Capitol? That is, what was the specific danger she was supposed to protect against? That question, alone, is usually enough to earn an epithet or two from MAGA as they slink back into the darkness.
For the rest of us, we know the answer because we’re not caught up in a web of delusions and stories. The danger that faced the Capitol building that day came from Trump and his attempt to steal the election. Why, oh why, would Trump try to send an army to quell the insurrection he was ALSO scheming to send?
Take your time, MAGA…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now that the traitor-in-Chief, Stinky Donny, has filed his appeal to the Supremely Kangaroo Court, I, for one, am holding my breath. On the one hand, I don’t trust this clearly corrupted court. On the other, the ruling in this case could affect the entire Presidential race. The appeal in this case is about Colorado declaring Donny ineligible to run based on his insurrection and attempt to overthrow the government but if the court upholds Colorado’s decision, they’re basically declaring Donny ineligible in every state.

CAN you try to overthrow the government and then be allowed back to the levers of power for a second run at it? It’s a very big, very important, and very stupid question. ANY rational person would say, “No!” MAGA says, “Look, a shiny thing!” What’s important is what the court says. It will be important forever, either because they protect the nation and the Constitution or because they don’t, and he tears the thing up and starts making his own rules.

It’s a concern because of the makeup of this court. Clarence Thomas’ wife is, allegedly, a co-conspirator and participant in the attempted coup. I’m guessing his vote is already cast. Protecting Donny protects his wife. He should recuse himself but then he couldn’t protect his beloveds, so he won’t. So that’s one vote for ‘Dictator.’ Roberts himself, has said he doesn’t buy the argument that the 14th Amendment applies to the President. If that remains true (people sometimes change their minds) that’s TWO votes for ‘Dictator.’

Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan will all vote for the Constitution, of course. But after those three, “smart” runs out in this court and devolves to political loyalty. Sometimes. How will the last five decide, Constitution or Dictator?

I’ll tell you this: that’s not a question I ever thought would exist in this country…

Deceiver Denied…

Well, Donny’s got a new deception working. I know, he’s nothing BUT deception. This one, though, is likely to fool MAGA (I mean, what doesn’t?) but nobody else. Worse, he’s kind of mapping a route for MAGA to escape the cult. There are three women who worked in the Trump White House. Okay, there were a LOT of women who worked in the Trump white House but these three women both testified to the J6 committee AND went on network television together to warn Americans about the dangers of sending Trump back to the Oval.

In an interview with Jonathan Karl, Cassidy Hutchinson, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sarah Matthews appeared on ABC’s This Week on Sunday to caution America about the dangers a second Trump presidency could bring. They said things like, “Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it, and I don’t say that lightly” and that a second Trump term could mean “the end of American democracy as we know it.”

Trump, being the thin-skinned, man-baby he is, retaliated, or tried to. He started posting comments each of the women made in support of him and his Presidency. It seems like he’s going for, “Hey, they loved me, now they’re stabbing me in the back.” Except, no. The comments he posted ALL come from before J6. Ever since? The scales have fallen from their eyes and they’re trying to warn other believers that this guy is a false prophet to be avoided.

You see, they DID love him, just like everyone else in the cult. The difference? They saw him, up close and personal, in action on J6. They loved Donny but they love America more. (An unacceptable quality in a MAGA.) When Trump tried to overthrow the election, they were forced to re-evaluate their opinions and their newly updated assessments were not good. MAGA is trying to smear them as RINO (Republicans In Name Only) but they’re REALLY just good Americans, unlike MAGA.

In short, people who loved Trump and would have followed him blindly nearly anywhere now despise and fear him. They worry for their country if he gets back. They worry for the rule of law and the continuing existence of the Constitution. These aren’t lefty “libtards.” These are STILL Republicans who once loved Trump, only to discover he’s not who they thought he was. He’s far, FAR worse.

You see MAGA? You CAN break free. I mean, I don’t blame you for not listening to, say, me. I’m a pretty well established anti-Trump guy. But the people who loved him? The people who worked for him and did his bidding? People who, just like you, WANTED to believe and then just…couldn’t anymore – specifically because of what they saw of him behind closed doors?

I’ll tell you this: You should listen to them. They have no political axe to grind. They just know better now. And you can, too. It’s okay…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Donny’s been arguing that he has absolute, perfect immunity for anything and everything he does if he’s still the President, even if he’s just a lame-duck President. He’s taking that insane argument to courts and asking them to agree. He’s trying it in most of his cases so everything is on hold while courts go through the formality of saying, “No, Dumbass, NO American citizen has absolute, perfect immunity and the President is an American citizen, first and foremost.” And now? It has started.
The first appeal to come back with a ruling of, “Don’t be an idiot!” (I’m probably paraphrasing) comes from a three-judge panel at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in the civil suits filed by the cops on scene at the Capitol on the day of Donny’s failed insurrection. Now the cops (or their families) can move forward with their cases. This is only the FIRST test that will affirm the President is NOT immune from prosecution for anything he does. But it won’t be the last. His “I’m immune” claim will buy him some time, but, long term, not a reprieve…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is funny. In a 2004 interview, Donny is quoted as saying the economy does better under Democrats than under Republicans. Wolf Blitzer asked him if he was a Republican or a Democrat. His answer? ”Well, you’d be shocked if I said that in many cases I probably identify more as Democrat,” Trump replied. THEN he added, “You know, it’s interesting, I’ve been now around long — you know, I think of myself as a young guy, but I’m not so young anymore. And I’ve been around for a long time. And it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.” (Did you notice? He was doing the word-salad thing even back then…)

He’s right, too. Republicans consistently add more to the national debt than Democrats. LOTS more. After Donny’s complete collapse as President (MAGA pretends it was utopia), the economy tanked in a big way, the biggest way. A record way. No one has EVER tanked the economy like Trump. (The Trump maladministration lost 22 million jobs. The Great Depression only lost 15 million.) After only three years on the job, Biden has the economy humming along at a record-setting pace. (MAGA pretends they live in a Mad Max-style, dystopian hell hole. That must be hard to maintain every time they step outside…)

It has been this way since Reagan. Republicans crash the economy, Democrats come in a fix it. I’ll tell you this: why we ever bother with Republicans in the first place remains a mystery to me…

Not Right…

The conservatives in congress won’t fund aid to Ukraine or Israel unless and until something is done at our southern border to stop the flow in immigrants. So, old Sleepy Joe went ahead and arranged for a weapons sale to Israel without congressional oversight. That’s supposed to be a no-no but the Biden administration is pushing the idea that it’s an emergency and that Israel has national security implications and a right to “maintain a strong and ready national defense capability.”

Obviously, the cons are whining about Biden’s congressional end-run on GOP obstruction. But then, they whine about everything, all the time. By now, it’s LOUD, but it’s boring. As it happens, there are Democrats out there complaining about the sale, too. There WILL BE some kerfuffle about it but I’m pretty sure more American bombs will be falling on Palestinian babies soon. Thanks, Joe.

Meanwhile, South Africa has asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN’s top court, to declare that Israel’s war in Gaza is a violation of the Genocide Convention of 1948. The filing accused Israel of engaging “in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza”. I stand with South Africa on this one. Israel rejects the charge “with disgust” and as “blood libel” from South Africa. ”Blood libel.” Sounds like time for the disclaimer.

For me, and millions of people around the world, my concerns about the developments in Israel and Palestine are about governments and what governments do. I don’t give two figs about which religion these people practice or which of the nearly 3,600 gods worshiped on Earth right now, today, they think is the most super-de-duper. Trying to shut down criticism of Israeli actions with charges of “antisemitism” or “blood libel” is a dodge that comes from people who don’t seem able to otherwise defend their actions.

Look, I do not, CAN not, will not defend the incredibly stupid and violent response of Hamas in their October 7th attack that killed 1,200 Israelis. Since that day, though, the Israelis have killed nearly 22,000 Palestinians and they have no intention of stopping. Palestine is in ruins. Israel warned Palestinians to run south, then bombed the place they told the Palestinians to run to. They’ve completely destroyed any and all medical help in Gaza. If you’re Palestinian, disease is becoming more likely to kill you than Israeli (American) bombs.

I see it this way: let’s say you’re in a bar and a guy sucker-punches you from behind, then blends into the crowd so you don’t know who hit you. You do NOT have the right to kill everyone you see until you get the right guy. But that has been Israel’s strategy from the start. The world (except the US) started asking Israel to stand down. Netanyahu said he will not. Eventually, even Biden asked Netanyahu to, if he wouldn’t mind, please, take it a little easy on Gaza. Netanyahu increased bomb runs. The outcry is getting louder but the attacks just keep coming, Palestinians just keep dying. Israel keeps attacking and they’re using American bombs to do it. Yeah, because they need a strong “defense capability.”

If you ask an Israeli apologist about the war, they’ll look at you and drone, “From the river to the sea” because Hamas says they want to drive Israelis into the sea. From MY point of view, Israel says it wants everyone to get along - all the while working aggressively to push Palestinians into the sea. Hamas says they wish they could do it. Israel just does it – and they’re using American bombs. Oh, how I hate this war…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, I need something lighter. I didn’t see the game so I can’t say for sure. Yesterday, the Dallas Cowboys played the Detroit Lions. At the end, the Lions were down by one and tried a two-point conversion to win the game. This is all “in the weeds” stuff so I’ll simplify as much as possible. There’s a way for a guy normally NOT allowed to catch the ball to be allowed to for one play. He has to report to the refs that, for this play, he’s an eligible receiver and the refs tell the defense so they’re aware.
According to the LIONS, a guy named Decker reported to the official, Brad Allen, as eligible. At the same time, another player was running onto the field, number 70, a guy named, Skipper. (That’s his real last name.) So, Decker reports but Allen tells Dallas that SKIPPER has reported. The Lions run their play and it goes to Decker, just like it was supposed to. The refs called a penalty and the winning two-point play was negated. Detroit went on to lose.
The ref, Allen, may have gotten confused, listening to Decker, but watching Skipper run onto the field. Allen reported the wrong name to Dallas, then punished Detroit for Allen’s error. Allen maintains it was Skipper who reported. Uh-oh. As always, there’s video. The video shows DECKER reporting and the official nodding, then speaking to Dallas. Despite the video, Allen is sticking to his story, for now.
This game had serious ramifications on the playoff picture. The officiating “error” changed things. There’s nothing that can be done about it now. Detroit is just screwed. It’s getting easier and easier to make a case that the NFL is using it’s well-established reputation for crappy officiating to manipulate the outcome of games…
See? Lighter. Okay, so this is the last issue of MyBaconPress for the year 2023. If you like what I’m doing, you can go to my site, https://mybaconpress.com/. Click the “Follow” button and enter your email address and they’ll come straight to your email inbox. Never miss an issue again!
2024 looks like it’s shaping up to be a BIG year in human history. WILL the US fall into the conservative fascist dream? Will Stinky Donald end up in prison or the White House? (Are we amazed that’s even a question?) Will rational, thinking Americans FINALLY push MAGA back into the shadows, where they belong? Will America solve its housing problem by passing the ‘End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act of 2023?’ Hell, will we solve ANY of our problems, or just keep nursing them as campaign “issues?” We all just have to wait and see. But I’ll be writing…
I’ll tell you this: I hope you have a safe and happy New Year celebration and I REALLY hope 2024 works out well – for all of us…
Losing Angles…
Amendment 14, Section 3…
The best thing about Maine booting 45 from the ballot – did you know Maine booted him from the ballot? – is that it will force the question in the Roberts Supremely Kangaroo Court. Colorado, famously, did it first. Now Maine. The thing is, these are not states in play in the race. Because of the constitutional distortion created by the “two” parties in this once-great nation, there are only something like five states that make the difference in Presidential elections, this year. Colorado and Maine aren’t among them. They both went Biden.
From the right, I see a lot of, “Let the voters decide!” In one sense, we’re going to – twelve “voters” at a time. But in a larger sense, it’s a bad plan, cons. One does NOT let the wolf decide if it should keep guarding the hen house after it kills the hens. MAGA has made clear that they’re NOT deep-thinkers and they are NOT trustworthy Americans. They want to put this proven traitor back into the Oval because they pretend he’s something he is absolutely not. But it’s only their image of him that is pretend. The damage he does is very, very real.
As an example, the American Civil War is said to have killed between 600,000 and 700,000 Americans – more than all of our other wars, combined. (And we’ve had a few…) It took four years. Stinky Donald killed more than that – in less time – just by being the feckless fuckup that he has always been – telling delusional stories while more than a million Americans died unnecessarily. MAGA thinks that was the victims’ fault. But it’s all down to Donny’s incompetence and apathy.
There are only three criteria for becoming President of the United States. One, you have to be at least 35 years old. Two, you have to be a natural born citizen who has resided in-country for the last 14 years. Three, you can’t take an oath to protect the United States and then participate in (let alone foment) insurrection against the same.
If you’re 32, the voters don’t “get to decide.” You don’t qualify. If you’re, for example, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the voters don’t “get to decide.” You don’t qualify. If you happen to be the President already and then plan with, and work with, the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers (and/or anyone else) to attack the Capitol Building in an effort to disrupt an official government proceeding, in an effort to stay in power even though you lost the election? The voters don’t “get to decide.” You don’t qualify. It’s pretty simple, really…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hurry up and wait…
He’s stalling for all he’s worth. It’s all he’s got, stalling. His ONLY hope is to hold out long enough to try to take advantage of legal loopholes and the power of the Presidency. If the trouble you’re in requires the power of the Presidency to get you out of it, you’ve done something bad, bad, bad. But he has NO legal path out of the crimes he’s committed. He NEEDS technicality. It’s quite simple: if he loses the election, he goes to jail.

He’ll run around telling anyone who will listen how innocent he is. He’ll talk and talk and talk, trying to convince…someone. His acolytes will ALSO insist he didn’t do what he did and so he couldn’t be guilty of the crimes he commits. While out in public, he’ll call his opposition names. He calls it a “witch hunt” but it’s really just the end of a crime spree. He says it’s illegal, what their doing to him, but the law keeps agreeing with the law enforcers, “Nope, he’s not being persecuted. It looks like he committed crimes and should stand to account for them.” He’ll do and say a LOT, claiming he’s as innocent as a newborn babe. You know what he won’t do?

Testify. He’s got LOTS of chances coming up, sooner or later. There is trial after trial after trial (after trial, OMG) coming at him. Each one will offer him the opportunity to take the stand, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and tell his story. It will be the perfect venue to FINALLY put all this nonsense to bed, once and for all. But he won’t. He can’t. Now, that’s something every MAGA should consider. Trump won’t testify because Trump CANNOT testify. If he gets up on the stand, under oath, and tells all the lies he publicly tells his desperately-want-to-believers, they’ll add perjury charges and his situation will only get worse.

Pay attention MAGA. Trump is going to tell YOU he’ll testify but when the time comes, he won’t do it. Ever. He can’t. Oh, he’ll have excuses. But it will all boil down to one thing. If he tries to testify under oath, his crime spree expands – and so do the charges against him. Even his team of kinda “lawyer-ish” little legal elves won’t let him on the stand. Even THEY know better. THAT will be your cue, MAGA. THAT will be how you can know, once and for all, that Donny’s been playing you for fools and scamming you out of your money. He won’t testify…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sing, Tay…
Did you know MAGA is mad at Swifties? Did you care? A Swiftie is a fan of Taylor Swift. Turns out, she has a few. Quite a few. All right, millions and millions. Taylor Swift is a very smart person and she has a good team around her. As she rose to prominence in the entertainment world, she pretty much kept her politics to herself and did her singing and dancing thing. Then came Stinky Donald.
Taylor saw the danger and decided to use her platform, despite warnings from her team. She knew it would alienate a portion of her fan base. She did it, anyway. She has come out loudly and strongly against the criminal ex-President. THEN, she started encouraging young people to register to vote. Apparently, this resulted in around 35,000 new voters in short order, scaring the hell out of the GOP. She’s mobilizing her army of fans against the rise of fascism – and the fascists really hate that. So, they’ve turned on her. Suddenly, she’s a topic of derision in MAGAland, that fantasy landscape of pure and perfect conservative living that has never existed and never will.
I’ll tell you this: in the MAGA vs Swifties battle, my money is on the Swifties. For one thing, there are more of them. More importantly, though, it’s easier for Taylor than for Donny. MAGA requires hours and hours of hate-filled, fear-fueled reinforcement on a daily basis in order to maintain their dogma. Swifties only need a song…
Passing…
I’m sorry to report the passing of Tommy Smothers. He was a funny man and made me laugh whenever I caught one of his performances. What higher compliment can there be for a comedian?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ha, ha, Lauren Boebert is leaving Colorado’s 3rd district to try a run in Colorado’s 4th district. Does she think the good people of Colorado haven’t been following her antics outside of the 3rd? She knows she doesn’t have much of a shot in the 3rd. Apparently, the hand job in the theater full of kids didn’t go over too well with her constituents. They didn’t mind the fascism or hateful, anti-American rhetoric, but the handy was a bridge too far. Maybe the cons in the 4th district will be more forgiving. I hope not…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stinky Don? I’m hearing it a LOT these days. A lot of people are saying it. Smart people, very fine people. A lot of people have been coming up to me, big people, brave people, with tears in their eyes and saying “That guy stinks” or “Can you believe the smell coming from that guy?” It’s no wonder there are tears in their eyes. Some say it’s just a disgusting body odor he tries to cover up with colognes. Some say he wears diapers because he just craps where he is – and then wanders around with a full diaper.
It’s been said that Donny eats McDonald’s so much because he’s afraid he might get poisoned. He is known to prefer the little, single-serving bottles of ketchup, likely for the same reason. Maybe the guy doesn’t shower because he’s afraid somebody can do something to harm him while he’s in there. It also seems likely that a guy with a diet of Big Macs (or whatever) over the course of 70+ years is just going to stink, sweatin’ out that lard. (Donny, have a salad.)
There’s a guy who put out a TikTok video that claimed he saw Donny get kicked out of a restaurant in the 1980’s because he stank so badly. He said the people at the tables closest to Donny just couldn’t stand the smell and complained, so the manager had no choice but to ask Donny to leave. That suggests the stench has been following him around for 40 years or so. Yuck!
A former staffer on ‘The Apprentice,’ Noel Casler, said Donny has lost all bowel control from doing too much speed, Adderall, and cocaine through the years. He said they had a guy on set who had the horrifying job of helping clean Donald up whenever he soiled himself, which happened often. Often enough, in fact, they nicknamed that poor staffer, “Wet Wipes.”
There’s a video out there, somewhere, of people smiling at Donny until he turns away, then rushing away from him or holding their noses or otherwise registering their disgust. The Republican Lincoln Project has a new ad out called “Limburger” that plays up the whole Stinky Donald angle. It’s said that Henry VIII of England smelled so badly one could know the king was on his way even before they saw him because the smell preceded him. Maybe Stinky Donald is trying to out-do Henry VIII. (He does keep churning wives, too…)
To me, the funniest part of the whole kerfuffle is that Donny’s team felt the need to respond to the charge. I mean, it could be that the whole thing is just the left having a little fun at Donny’s personal hygiene expense but old dependable just couldn’t let it go. He’s VERY thin-skinned. He had to respond. The thing is, in his response, nobody tried to deny that he stinks. It was more of a “Donny’s not the only person who smells” response. Classic Donny because it was a pathetically stupid move.
Amazon Prime is going to start including “limited advertisements” in it’s video service unless you pay an additional fee. According to MY mind and way of thinking, if I pay for a subscription service, it should NOT have ads. That’s what the subscription is for. If I have to put up with ads, why pay for the subscription? Bezos is double-dipping. Do you suppose he’s short on money? Nah, just greedy…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I’ll tell you what, I like Brock Purdy, now, more than I did before the Monday night debacle. No, not the interceptions. I like the after-game attitude. He came out to the inevitable after-game press conference and said, “I have to look myself in the mirror and ask myself why or how that happened and why I made those decisions. And so, our team came ready to play, and for me to make some decisions like that, it pains me, and it’s not fair to these guys. So I have to realize that and understand that, and I have to get better for my team.”

That’s what he’s supposed to say, but sometimes, guys don’t. And he certainly didn’t have to. Purdy gets saddled with five interceptions in that game. Five. But OF the five, there was exactly ONE that was a bad throw from the Quarterback to a defender. On three of those plays, Purdy hit the receiver he meant to hit right where he meant to hit him, only to see the ball fall from their hands. Normally, the ball just falls to the turf, the refs pick it up, and they get back to the game. There were a couple of those, too. But the picks? The missed pass didn’t fall down, it bounced up. Defenses love that. They learn to try to capitalize on it. They practice it. The Ravens are a very good team that does capitalize on opponent’s errors. And so they did. But a popped up pass that hit the correct receiver – who failed to catch it – isn’t the QB’s fault in my book.

The last interception? Someone hit Purdy’s arm as he threw the ball, causing the pass to go somewhere other than where it had been intended. Not Purdy’s fault. But Purdy didn’t point fingers. He just said he has to do better. Classy guy. STILL a very good Quarterback.

I suspect these two teams will meet again. I suspect the game will be different. I don’t know the outcome, of course, but the Niners are a better team than they showed on Christmas and these collapses don’t happen to good teams often. Niners lost their cushion in the race for the first seed but other than that, their position remains the same. Let’s go, Niners!

80 Years…

We celebrate this, the day Jesus was definitely NOT born, and we call it Christmas. I’d like to ask, if the day Jesus was NOT born is ‘Christmas,’ isn’t every day but one, Christmas? I mean, if we’re going to pick a random day for recognition, let’s pick one in Spring, say, April 30th. We declare THAT the day Jesus was born, and for that ONE day only, everyone would put away their Christmas decorations and hide the gifts and keep the wishes of the season to themselves. Then, the next day, we put it all back up again for the next 364 days! Year-round Christmas, each day recognizing the day Jesus wasn’t born. What a lovely tradition it could be…

This is fascinating. I’m a person who believes history repeats in roughly 80 year cycles. That’s a VERY abstract statement. History doesn’t ‘repeat’ in a detailed sense. But large events often do. It’s also important to note that it’s not a perfect 80, either. That’s an average. It could be 70, it could be 90, but it averages to 80 and sometimes, it hits right on. Let’s look at some world-changing events, shall we?

The American Revolution started in 1776. THAT, in and of itself, was NOT a world-changing event. Nations rising up against oppressive occupation by the world’s greatest super-power, the United Kingdom, was kind of common. The efforts usually failed. For decades, the sun never set on the British empire. So I look to 1781.

1781 is the year the Americans defeated the British and won their independence. Now THAT was a world-changing event. We had beaten the greatest power on Earth. It took awhile but we managed to unleash a NEW, even greater power, the United States of America, and that certainly, for better or worse, changed the world. So, watch this: 1781+80. Hey, that’s 1861.

1861 was the start of the American Civil War. Yeah, it took four years to play out but the start of the war, in an effort to put an end to slavery throughout the colonies, was unprecedented, a world-changing event. Nobody knew who was going to win but, either way, the world as it had been in 1860 was no more. Either slavery would be enshrined in the Confederacy or eliminated entirely, affecting – even harming – huge swaths of the economy. (I have no tears for the “harmed” slave trade or the plantation owners…) But let’s continue. 1861+80. OMG, 1941.

December 7, 1941 is the date the United States was drawn into World War II in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This one might be a bit myopic since the war in Europe had been raging for several years by then and my focus is on the US entering. But I think the US entrance to the war was a deciding factor in how the war played out. The events in Germany with the Nazis and the war that finally put them down absolutely, undeniably changed the world. That one, too, took about four years to play out, after we got in. It created the American hegemony. We became the most powerful force on Earth and, for a time, we handled that responsibility well. Sadly, it’s only a short step from hegemon to empire and it wasn’t long before we were “protecting American interests” all over the newly and completely transformed world. So we continue. 1941+80. Holy gods, that’s 2021.

I don’t think I’m out too far out on a limb to suggest that January 6th, 2021 was a world-changing day. For the first time in the history of our once-great nation, a sitting President refused the results of a fair and honest election and orchestrated a coup attempt that included a physical attack on the Capitol building, ridiculous legal challenges (sans evidence), and illegal pressure on election officials to count pretend votes. Whatever respect the United States still retained in the eyes of the world was just…tossed into the waste bin by one narcissistic megalomaniac. Millions of Americans suddenly started insisting true was false and false was true – and then getting furious if you didn’t play along.

In ONE DAY, America was transformed from the most stable democracy on the planet to something of a banana republic in which an insane (or at least very stupid) wanna-be dictator tried to seize power based on a lie. TWO centuries of peaceful transfers of power just…tossed aside casually by people too self-absorbed, too stupid, to understand the damage they were doing. And still, this one plays out.

The birth of our nation took about 8 years to unfold. (The war ended in 1781. Washington was first inaugurated to the Presidency on April 30, 1789. See? There’s ALWAYS something special about April 30…) At the time, the emergence of the United States on the world was a good thing so, while it took awhile to get going, the world-changing upheaval was for the better.

The American Civil War played out over the course of four years. Yes, many in the south have remained whiny, little bitches about their loss ever since but despite their whinging, the American Civil War ended well for the nation and the world. It was a great move forward for humanity, a world-changing event that changed the world for the better.

World War II is harder to define. The American participation lasted, again, a little over four years. (Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945, but the Japanese fought on until August.) On the up side, we smacked fascism down hard. We didn’t eliminate Nazis but we left them cowering in the darkest corners, where they belong. Germany became a great nation, a force for good in the world. It can hardly be disputed, the good guys won. The world benefited from that win for decades to come.

The American Revolution took place because a bad guy, a despot, wanted to maintain control over “his” colonies – but the good guys won. The American Civil War started because greedy, evil people wanted to maintain “ownership” of human beings for profit – but the good guys won. WWII started because evil fascists wanted to control the world and impose their authoritarian new world order – but the good guys won. On average, it took about 5 years for these horrific, world-changing events to play out.

Now we get Trump’s 2021 coup attempt. It’s still playing out. (January 6th, 2024 will be three years in.) No one knows how it will end. The insurrection did so much damage to the reputation of the United States in the eyes of the world, it has already been a world-changing event. There is a strong force pushing the wrong side. But the battle, this one legal more than bloody so far, continues. If history is any indicator, the good guys will win. But not without great cost and great sacrifice.

80 years. I hope any survivors of climate change are ready for 2101…

On that happy note (hey, the good guys win) MyBaconPress would like to wish each and every one of you (okay, you) a wonderful, happy, very merry Christmas. (Or Saturnalia, if that’s what you’re into…)

What I Want From Santa…

There’s a conservative columnist at the New York Times named Ross Douthat. He’s trying to convince someone that what happened on January 6th, 2021 was a nothing burger, blown out of all proportion by reactionary liberals who just hate Trump. He suggested it’s anti-democratic to use the 14th Amendment to prevent a known traitor from returning to power because what Trump did was different from what the Confederacy tried to do. Douthat’s opinion depends heavily on this paragraph he referred to in his own column:

‘The term “insurrection,” New York magazine’s Jonathan Chait wrote on Wednesday, is “a defensible shorthand for Jan. 6.” But it’s not “the most precise” term, because while “Trump attempted to secure an unelected second term in office,” he “was not trying to seize and hold the Capitol nor declare a breakaway republic.”’

MAN, that’s some fine parsing. He acknowledges that “insurrection” is a “defensible shorthand.” I read “defensible shorthand” as “a position that is readily supported.” Mr. Chait might just as well have written, “While insurrection is a correct term…” Cons don’t like it, anyway, because while “Trump attempted to secure an unelected second term…” Okay, I’ve got to stop you right there. You’re going to attempt to ‘yadda-yadda’ an attempt to “secure an unelected second term?” I THINK Mr Chait meant to write, while “Trump illegally tried to stay in power for his own purposes after losing a fair and honest election…”

Trying to stay in power after losing an election is okay with them because he “was not trying to seize and hold the Capitol nor declare a breakaway republic.” Uh-huh. That’s true, I guess. He was trying to seize and hold the White House, a whole different building! Still, I think Mr. Chait might well have intended to write that Trump wasn’t trying to hold the Capitol BUILDING, because he sure as hell was trying to “secure and hold” the Capitol of the nation. As to the rest, why would trump NEED to declare a breakaway republic after he had successfully betrayed and destroyed the existing republic?

It’s some very weak thinking (aka, classic conservatism). These guys just pick a story, insist they believe it, and then try to insist that everybody else believe it, too. They’re very, very frustrated nobody outside their delusional little circle will accept their preferred reality. Their main excuse for not blaming Trump, though, is that January 6th never happened and besides, it was Antifa, no, liberals, no BLM, and it was just an out of control mob out for a casual walk, a spontaneous event that grew, organically, from Trump’s inspirational speech.

Trump wasn’t giving a speech. He was rallying the troops before battle. He was rallying the troops HE had called out. As to “spontaneous?” These guys showed up dressed for the occasion.

The insets show the detail of the shirts those men are wearing AT the Capitol attack ON January 6th, 2021. Either these guys found a t-shirt printing shop that worked really, really fast on January 6th, 2021, stopped in, and had some casual, souvenir shirts made for the casual and peaceful stroll down to the Capitol, or they had inside information and had the shirts made beforehand.
Every con in the country: “PHOTOSHOP!”
If it is, take it up with ABC News, where the photo came from. I don’t think it is, though.

I think MOST of the people who went were just sheeple following along, likely caught up in the excitement. But I think there were a few who knew their part of the plan well before January 6th. They had at least enough time to have shirts made. Now all the cons have to do is explain all the rioters who showed up for the “casual event” with weapons and defensive tools, like gas masks, or garbage can lids to be used as shields.

Nice try, cons. Next, you need to explain away Trump’s phone call in which he asked someone to “find” him 11,780 votes and make clear how that was “just ensuring election integrity.” Oh, and the OTHER phone call in which he told a couple of people NOT to certify the vote and promised to get them attorneys. If you’re just doing your job, for what reason might you need attorneys?

I’ll tell you this: Cons are destroying this country because they can’t tell a lie from the truth. What I want from Santa this year is a sudden infusion of intelligence into certain conservative segments of this once-great nation.

Win Some, Lose Some…

Donnie wins this one.
Yeah, see this is the problem. Before he left, Donny managed to corrupt the once-respected Supreme Court by packing it full of partisan hacks happy to do his bidding. It’s really kind of stupid of them. Once he’s back, there’s really no need for a Supreme Court. Trump will BE the Supreme Court. At a minimum, this means EVERY time the court rules to bring the traitor back to the White House, they’re ruling themselves out of a job. For Thomas and Alito, in particular, they’re ruling themselves right out of a magnificent gravy train. (Who bribes a judge with no power?) But that seems quite likely with this latest ruling they’ve made.

They decided NOT to hear the question of Presidential Immunity for the moment. Jack Smith had asked them to step in and rule on something everybody knows is going to end up in front of them in the end. Jack wanted them to cut out the middle man. Why bother with the lower courts? It’s a waste of time! Those last two sentences go together and give you your answer. Why bother with the lower courts? It’s a waste of time – and that’s the goal. With their one sentence, they bought Donny at least four months of reprieve.

DOES the President enjoy absolute immunity from everything he does while he’s infesting the Oval? Of course not. You’d have to be a blithering idiot (or a desperate criminal – or both) even to suggest it. But with these kangaroos, on this court? Who knows? I know it’s not what the founders had in mind. THEY thought the President is just a US citizen, just like every other US citizen and subject to the same laws. Listen, I’ve never bought the whole, President is immune while in office crap, either. The President is a US citizen and should be subject to the same laws. The “trick,” it turns out, is simply to NOT break laws while you’re President. Then you don’t have any problems, right? It really is a rather straight-forward solution. It’s something millions of Americans manage every day. It just shouldn’t be that hard for the President.

It COULD just be courtly cowardice. Send the question back to the lower courts, let the lower courts rule, then repeat, “No, the President is a citizen and subject to the laws of the land and does NOT enjoy absolute immunity for life.” THEN the SKCOTUS just refuses to hear the case when requested, leaving the lower court ruling in place. Still, it buys Donny time and that’s the thing he needs most in this world. Time to get himself back because, at this point, being President is the only way he can protect himself from the consequences of his crimes.

If the courts DO decide a President has absolute immunity for life for anything they do, legal or otherwise? I’d prefer to see our current President (that would be the clear winner of the last election, Joe Biden) declare himself President for life and just stay there, blocking the dumbass from getting back that way. Granted, President-for-life Biden might not last all that long, considering his age but, since the game in our failing nation is stall, stall, stall, it would be a good stall. Sure, not legal, but the President has full and absolute immunity for life, right?

BIDEN claiming permanent power is just as much of a problem, Constitutionally, as Donny claiming permanent power. A dictator is a dictator. But, Donny is a demonstrably, objectively worse human being that Biden. At least Biden could use his claimed extra time to pack the court with rational people and put the country BACK onto a constitutional track. (“Uh, hate to interrupt,” Ben Franklin’s ghost said, “But, um, absolute power corrupts absolutely.”)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A last-gasp angle
Okay, for clarity, this is just me noodling. I hope it never comes to this but… Even with the help of the kangaroos for Donny, Americans can have one last chance to save the country without bloodshed. On November 5, 2024? We can vote out MAGA (most of us want to, anyway) and hand control of the entire Congress back to the Democrats. They get sworn in – and take over Congress on Jan 3, 2025. Now, let’s say MAGA and the Russians have, actually managed to re-install their puppet, Donny, in the same “election.” (Vote on paper and they can’t.) Donny doesn’t get to seize power again until Jan 21, 2025. That would give the Dems 18 days to impeach him and remove him that way, with no danger of the jury nullification that helped him so much the last two times, and his corrupt cronies on the kangaroo court couldn’t help him…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The MAGA mind…
The cons are out, in force, trying to press the point that using the 14th Amendment to block a known, proven traitor from trying to gain control again is, somehow, “anti-democratic.” Tell me, is that more, or less “anti-democratic” than staging an insurrection in an attempt to steal power outright? (I think a constitutional disqualifier is a constitutional disqualifier…)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MORE evidence of his crimes
Meanwhile, a new recording has surfaced of Donny trying to steal the election by pressing Michigan election officials to NOT certify the Michigan election. He and GOP National Committee Chairperson Ronna McDaniel tried to get them to NOT sign off the certification and promised, “We will get you attorneys.” (I would think “We will get you attorneys” should be something of a red flag but I’m not MAGA.) Two of the MAGA, Monica Palmer and William Hartmann, tried to comply. They had already voted to certify but then refused to sign the certification and the next day, tried to rescind their initial vote to certify. Methinks Palmer and Hartmann are going to be needing those attorneys in the very near future…
In MAGA Newspeak, Donny was only trying to protect the election by undermining the election because, obviously, that’s HOW one protects and election, by undermining it. No, it doesn’t make sense. It’s MAGA. It doesn’t have to make sense, or have any rational basis, or be truthful in any way, shape, or form. It just has to help Donny and that makes it all okay…
Oh, no! MAGA is Upset. Still…
Yeah, who didn’t see this coming? The Colorado State Supreme Court ruled that Donny is not eligible to be the President because of the 14th Amendment. The case will, of course, go to the Roberts Supremely Kangaroo Court to be settled. It’s a dark shame it’s going to be reviewed by this group of partisan, loyalist, pay-for-a-ruling hacks. Colorado got it right. There’s no telling what the Roberts Court might do.
IS it a good idea to allow a person who tried to overthrow the country once to get close to the levers of power again? Smart people say no. MAGA says “What about Biden?” We all knew the ruling might damage what’s left of Donny’s tattered sanity. We all knew MAGA would come out of the woodwork – they’ve been pretty quiet, recently – in support of Donny. I expected posts from 45 in social media lying about the decision. Death threats against the judges who made the ruling? Of course (and right on cue). Oh, and a FLOOD of misinformation being pushed into the conservative bubble. Gotta keep ’em confused…
These guys are pretending that Donny has immunity for life because he was President? (Hey, MAGA, then so does Joe Biden! Square THAT! I’ll wait.) He doesn’t. Oh, okay, then it was his obligation to “verify election information.” Here’s a direct quote from the transcript of the phone call to Brad Raffensperger, “All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes…” That’s not “verifying” anything. That’s trying to get the guy to manufacture votes that didn’t exist. That’s cheating. And that was just the smallest piece of his coup attempt.
So, yeah. MAGA is out there, screaming and yelling (mostly metaphorically, thankfully) and Donny’s about to spin even further out of control and MAGA doesn’t like this one teeny, tiny little bit. They simply CANNOT understand why people are responding to so much factual evidence about Donny but will NOT get equally upset over the things they make up about Joe (evidence perpetually “pending.”).
I was treated to a new phrase this morning, “Partisan Lawfare.” It’s pretty clever. Like everything MAGA, it’s pointing, fearfully, into the mirror. They’re trying to reinforce the “partisan prosecution” angle but they never seem to grasp that the ONLY team responding to the charges with partisan behavior is them. I want Trump tried because the evidence indicates he’s a criminal and a threat to our nation. THEY want Trump left alone because they really, really like him and they don’t CARE what he does. Trump Derangement Syndrome is real. It’s just that it’s MAGA that’s deranged.
I’ll tell you this: I’m not impressed by ANY of their tantrums. Donny can write what he wants in his social media. Cons can pretend anything they want. I already know words can be strung together. I’ll need to see some support that goes beyond, “But we don’t LIKE this!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is tangentially related. How could a person possibly believe that keeping someone who tried to overthrow the country from becoming President is “anti-democratic?” It’s one of the stories cons are telling themselves. America (and probably the world) is laughing at the field of Republicans out their “running for President.” We’ve ALL noticed, they want to talk tough. They want to make their points. But they do not, WILL NOT say word one against their main rival, the traitor Donald Trump. That seems…tough in a terrified, little way…

Nikki Haley finally said words that included Donny’s name. She said she thinks she can beat him without the help of the Colorado State Supreme Court. (That’s some hard-hitting stuff, there, Nikki.) Newsflash: they aren’t “helping” you. They’re enforcing the Constitution which now has THREE rules for eligibility for President of the United States. You have to be at least aged 35. You have to be a natural born citizen. You can’t take an oath to the United States and then participate in an insurrection. It’s pretty simply, really. It’s just that no one ever thought we’d need to enforce that third one. Who, after all, would support a traitor to take a second run at it? Delusion, thy name is MAGA…

Big News In Small Flashes…

What a beautiful day! The wind is whipping. The sun is completely obscured by rain clouds, leaving the light dull and dreary. The rain is soaking everything. Everything feels wet. But the Colorado State Supreme Court has ruled the criminal Donald Trump ineligible for the Colorado ballot, and that makes the day beautiful.

I get to enjoy the fact that some sanity, some where, remains in what’s left of this once-great nation, at least for a short moment. The ruling was stayed, meaning it won’t go into affect until a certain point in the future. That allows Donny time to file an appeal to the Robert’s Supremely Kangaroo Court (SKCOTUS) and those guys are just…unpredictable.

They’re well known for ruling based on their religious beliefs and their “feels.” A couple of them (Thomas and Alito) have also established a hard and fast reputation for ruling however their “friends” pay them to rule. Occasionally, though, they seem to rule according to the law so we’ll just have to wait and see if they’re going with “feels,” bribes, or law.

Sadly, Chief Kangaroo Roberts is already on record as saying he doesn’t think the President is an officer of the United States, a position that defies all logic. Perhaps one of his smarter fellows on the court (one of the liberals, I mean) can help him understand. It’ll be tough, though. MAGA sheds facts like a duck’s back sheds water. So…now we wait for the ruling.

I have noticed that the stronger the challenges to Donny’s delusions and his ability to convince people he might actually be something he totally is not, the more tenuous his grip on reality. He’s losing track of where he is and whom he’s running against. His normal word salads are even less intelligible. He’s SO focused on his legal woes, his speeches sound like an old vinyl record with a skip, just repeati…repeati…repeati…repeati…repeati…repeati…repeati…

The Colorado ruling may not stand, but the next few days are likely to take a heavy toll on old Donny the Delusional. Making it back to the Oval is the ONLY chance he has to stay out of jail and he is one desperate dude. Colorado removing him from the ballot eliminates even the possibility he could get back and that could prove to be such a serious threat to him that his psyche just…snaps! (You’ll have to watch closely. It will be hard to see any difference. The dude DOES, after all, think he’s still the effing President running (for a third term?) against Barack Obama!) Insanity, thy name is MAGA…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don’t normally write on Wednesdays but because of the big news about the little man, I thought a special edition was in order. THEN, I open the paper (technically, I click on a link) and there’s another headline I never thought I’d see. ‘Judge Orders Release of Over 150 Names of People Mentioned in Jeffery Epstein Lawsuit Documents.’
I’m glad to know someone is still out there, hammering away, trying to get the information public about which rich and powerful men like to have sex with underage women. Authorities know, you know. Epstein (you won’t be surprised to learn) was NOT a good man. He kept book on who was doing what with whom. He had DVD’s all carefully labeled “Rich Guy + (victim), such and such a date.” It’s a piece of the story that made the papers, then just quietly disappeared around the time Epstein definitely did NOT kill himself.
No, I don’t think we’re going to see the names of THOSE guys yet. They’re names like ‘Clinton,’ ‘Gates,’ ‘Trump,’ and even ‘Prince Andrew.’ There are other big names in there, too. Rich, powerful, (perverted) men who have a great deal of control over their own press. But these lower level names can lead to the identities of some of these rich perps and I STILL want to know who they are…
