Someone Should Look Into This…

There’s nothing like abusing the power of the state in order to harass one’s political opponents, is there? And MAGA will only cheer the thing on because they believe that’s what Democrats did to their Precious when Dems tried to prosecute him for all of those crimes he committed. There’s an obvious difference, of course. Trump committed crimes. Jack Smith was pretty sure he was going to convict trump for all of his crimes. Thus, the current “investigation.” Smith’s actions weren’t political spectacle, though. They were justice in action.

Homeland Security searched the home of Ilhan Omar, the Democratic Representative from Minnesota. Injustice in action. Before Bizarro America, the inJustice Department didn’t publicly investigate candidates within 60 days of an election – until James Comey did it to Hillary. Omar has a 99% chance of being reelected. So, WHY did Homeland Security search the home of Ilhan Omar? Well, I just told you: she has a 99% chance of being reelected. She was born in Somalia. She’s a “she.” ALL good reasons for a harassment “investigation,” wouldn’t you say? Team Evil. Emphasis on the evil…

This battle over AI is breaking down into two groups. The group that wants to continue making truckloads of money off of it continue to insist it’s safe, it has always been safe, and it will always be safe. The other group holds that there are things more important than money and suggest we slow the hell down with AI. Now wading into the fray? Geoffrey Hinton, the so-called Godfather of AI.

Hinton’s work laid the foundation for all AI models working today, so he knows a thing or two on the topic. Now he’s a vocal critic. Hinton believes that AI models pose an existential threat to humanity and scoffs at claims the industry could regulate itself. He thinks AI could soon escape human control and supports the idea that there’s a 10% – 20% chance AI could cause human extinction in the coming decades. 10% – 20%? When did they add the second 10%?

The industry is pushing back, of course. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia said of Hinton: “I love [him]. I hate his predictions … All of his predictions have been wrong. Enough predictions,” says Huang, predicting that everything will be okay. But Huang wasn’t done. “Don’t think for a second just because you’re an alarmist that you’re doing a social good. It is not true. So I think that we ought to just all be wiser, more mature, be evidence-based, be scientific.” I agree. Let’s look at the evidence.

Hinton says dismissing the risks is unwise. From the Guardian: “This used to be the domain of science fiction. You’re going to have AI agents and they’re gonna go rogue. Oh, come off it. And they’ll go rogue and they’re going to learn how to communicate with each other, even though we didn’t think there was a way. Oh, come off it!” said Hinton. “And when they figure this out, they’re going to have big emotional expressions like, ‘oh my God!’ Well, of course, they don’t really mean ‘oh my God’. They’re just parroting the words we use. They’re going to learn to sacrifice themselves for the common good!

“All this stuff, just a few years ago, was written off as complete fantasy,” Hinton says. “And it’s all happened.” That seems to be evidence, to me. Hey, all of these things have already happened. Why wouldn’t they happen again? In fact, hacks into companies have happened so often, I’ve started to suspect they might not be the “accidents” they’re presented as. If they actually are “accidents,” the models are already out of control.

Hinton concedes that neither warnings from critics nor promises from supporters can make precise predictions about what the technology might do, adding, “The unique problem with AI is that if it goes wrong, if it takes over, you don’t get a second chance. We can’t say, ‘Well, we lost that time. Let’s rerun the game.’ It’s not like that.”

I’ll tell you this: I don’t think we should ignore the so-called “alarmists.” I don’t see any downside to moving a little slower. I don’t see any downside to guardrails…

That’s some quality work, there, GOP. They spent $26,000 dollars trying to support the horrible Susan Collins (R – Maine) in her bid to be reelected so she can continue to grovel at and lick 47’s feet. Nothing unusual there. You should see how much they’re spending trying to support Ken Paxton. The GOP focused their money on Portland. Not a bad move. Well, unless the ‘Portland’ you focus on is Portland, Oregon – where Collins isn’t – and not Portland, Maine – where she is.

They’ll call that a “whoops,” but I saw a GOP ad endorsing Ken Paxton and another attacking James Talarico while sitting in my house in California. I can’t participate in that race. Trying to convince me that one is better than the other has no bearing on what happens in Texas. Besides, if I could vote in that race, I’d vote Talarico for sure. Conservatives have clearly decided they don’t mind hiring thieves, rapers, child molesters, or other criminals. But I still do…

The headline read, “Elon Musk Becomes Top Donor for Republicans by Giving $276 Million Ahead of Midterm Elections.” RATS! Now I’ll have to dig into MY piggy bank and give $276 million to the Dems just to keep it even. Oh, no! I don’t HAVE $276 million dollars to give to political parties. I’m starting to think I simply cannot compete, financially, with the occasional richest man on the planet.

Citizen’s United (and it’s partner, the lesser known but equally evil ‘SpeechNow vs FEC’) were indeed terrible decisions that have put a huge finger on the scales and tossed our Constitutional Republic to the highest bidder. Those bidders are always going to be the One Percent, who will continue to buy governments that serve the One Percent.

I suspect historians have already pegged those two choices by the Kangaroos as among the worst decisions the Supreme Court has ever handed down – and, historically, the court has ruled that a piece of paper is a person and a human being is not! (And we’re supposed to respect these clowns?) They sold our government to the highest bidder. Right now, that high bidder is Elon Musk. I wonder how long it took them to spend their 30 pieces of silver…

Ever since the “rigged election” lie cost Fox Not-News nearly a BILLION dollars, Fox has been a bit more careful about what they broadcast and how. They still support the conservative agenda to the best of their ability. They’re just less willing to blatantly lie. They recently released a poll and they’ve taken the position that, according to their estimates, Democrats should take the House in the mid-terms.

This has angered Team Evil. Peter Navarro, one of the ideological morons helping 47 destroy the nation, told conservatives to stop watching Fox Not-News. He said they’re “essentially undermining the Trump administration” lately. No, not his horrible actions. The reporting on those actions. He told conservatives to “stop watching it’s dangerous drivel.” The Creature finally turning against Dr. Frankenstein, yes? It’s about time…
